I’ve just finished reading Modern Japan: A Very Short Introduction in which the author, Christopher Goto-Jones, concludes that Japan is still struggling to find a balance between its cultural heritage and the demands of the modern world, a conclusion that is never more apparent than during spring when the cherry blossoms are in full bloom
