Some Distant Memory – Kumbh Mela

A man in a big tent, late at night at the Kumbh Mela 2013.

This has been posted before. It was one of my favourites taken at the Kumbh Mela in 2013. Leica M6 / Fuji Provia 400.

A few years before this photo was taken my wife told me she wanted to visit festivals around the world and in Allahabad in 2013 the biggest Kumbh Mela in 144 years was taking place along the Ganges, so we decided to go.

We spent a few days staying in some of the worst accommodation I’ve ever stayed in and should have left to find somewhere else, but in hindsight, the whole experience was one we’ll never forget. There were over 30 million people on the banks of the Ganges during the festival all getting along in relative harmony.

The photo above was taken while out strolling at night and the man’s glare, and the artificial lighting mimicking the moon caught my attention.
