Festivals: Awa Odori

There are a few reasons why I live in Japan and the Awa Odori is one of them. I can’t imagine not being able to jump in the car and head west every summer. I miss it already. There are plenty of photos of the dancers dancing everywhere so here are a few of them mostly not dancing. And a friend wearing a sheep mask.

  1. These are great! I like the girl eating pizza and the bloke smoking a ciggie. I’m sure Freud would have something to say about that…..

    1. Best New York pizza restaurant in Japan. Owned by a good friend.

  2. These shots are amazing. I have to go next year. Is that Mr. S. in the sheep mask? And just out of curiosity, what film(s) are we looking at here?

    1. Yep. That’s Mr. L.

As for film, it’s a mix of Fuji Natura 1600 and Fuji Provia 400X pushed 2 stops.

Edit – Mr. L, Mr. S… take your pick.

      1. I had no idea that it was possible to push slide film. Do you just push it two stops and then tell the people down at the development shop to develop it as 1600 (that’s two stops, right?). You may have just changed my relationship with slide film.

      2. Yes.

Although from experience it’s probably better to shoot it at 1200 or thereabouts and develop at 1600. I’ve only ever done it with Provia 400 though.

      4. Do it before it all runs out. I just bought 5 rolls but I might pick up some more.
