I’ve been visiting Royal Trading International for a few weeks now to find contacts for the refugee project I’m currently working on. It’s a small Pakistani owned car trading company that buys in Japan and sells all over Asia, Africa, and Europe. Consequently, even with the briefest of visits you can meet people from pretty much anywhere in Asia or Africa. In the three short hours that I was there today I met people from Burma, Pakistan, India, Ghana, Turkey, and Uganda. I also met a Japanese man who spent 2 years living in Tonga. It raises questions about Japanese claim at being a homogeneous society, especially when the common language among everyone there is Japanese. I never knew there were so many nationalities in Kasugai.

But regardless, it’s a small side project and one that I’ve started to really enjoy.

今年、難民プロジェクトをやっているから難民に繋がるためにRoyal Trading Internationalという小さい車輸出会社へ最近よく行っています。日本で買った車をアジア、アフリカ、ヨーロッパなどで売るので色々な国籍の方と工場で会えます。例えば、今日３時間ほどしかいなかったのに、ビルマ人、パキスタン人、インド人、ガーナ人、ウガンダ人とトルコ人に会って、2年間トンガに住んでいた日本人と会話もしました。こういう場所に行って、様々な国籍の方々が普通に日本語で話しているし、仕事をしているとことを見ると、日本の社会は本当に同質社会（単一民族）なのか考えさせられる。春日井市に多様な国籍の方が住んでいると知りませんでした。

今のところ難民プロジェクトと別で、ミニプロジェクトとして考えているけどとても楽しい。
